Winston-Salem pet store impacted by construction project reopens in new location amid pandemic

A local business is hoping its new location will offset the impacts of both the coronavirus pandemic and the changes from the Salem Parkway construction project.

Bark Avenue Boutique and Barkery reopened Monday on N. Liberty St. in downtown Winston-Salem.

Its previous location was on Brookstown Avenue, but the business wasn’t seeing as many customers as other stores closer to the heart of downtown.

Owner Barry Blevins hopes the location near ARTivity on the Green will bring more families and their pets inside.

“The whole area is growing,” Blevins says. “This entire block pretty much now is under construction. I just think it’s a great area. I love the arts district. I love the neighborhood. I love the vibrancy.”

Blevins says he’s planning a grand opening for Bark Avenue in early 2021.
